INDICATIONS

Dogs
    • Restraint & Minor Procedures: Short procedures (averaging 30 minutes) requiring mild to moderate analgesia, such as draining abscesses, laceration repair, and castrations.
    • Anesthetic Induction: Intravenous (IV) use as an induction agent followed by maintenance with an inhalant anesthetic.

Cats
    • Minor Surgery & Diagnostics: Procedures like dentistry, abscess treatment, and foreign body removal.
    • Ovariohysterectomy & Onychectomy: Provides adequate anesthesia and restraint for spaying and declawing procedures.

Wildlife & Zoo Animals
  • Immobilization: Commonly utilized for the safe capture, handling, and examination of wild, exotic, or fractious zoo animals.

ADMINISTRATION

  • Administered either intravenously or intramuscularly.
  • Preparation: The drug is typically supplied as a lyophilized powder and reconstituted with a specific volume of sterile water (often 5 mL) to create a concentration of 100 mg/mL.
  • Dosage: The dose is strictly determined by the animal’s body weight and the type of procedure being performed (e.g., brief restraint, minor surgery, or induction prior to gas anesthesia).
  • Administration Routes:
    • Dogs: Can receive Zoletil either intramuscularly (IM) or intravenously (IV). Intramuscular injections are typically given deep into the muscle.
    • Cats: Must only receive Zoletil via intramuscular (IM) injection.
