Virbac ZANIL (oxyclozanide) is a veterinary flukicide used to treat and control fascioliasis and tapeworms in cattle, sheep, and goats.

Virbac ZANIL (oxyclozanide) is a veterinary flukicide used to treat and control fascioliasis and tapeworms in cattle, sheep, and goats.

INDICATIONS

  • Liver Flukes: It is primarily indicated for the treatment and control of chronic fascioliasis. It is highly effective at removing practically all adult liver flukes (Fasciola spp.) from the bile ducts of the liver.
  • Rumen Flukes: It is also used to help control rumen (stomach) flukes (Paramphistomum spp.) in affected animals.
  • Tapeworms: It is indicated for the removal of gravid tapeworm segments (Moniezia spp.) from the gastrointestinal tract.

ADMINISTRATION

  • Administration Route: Administer orally directly into the mouth, over the back of the tongue. Do not force the nozzle too far into the back of the throat, as this can cause injury or fatal infection.
  • Dosage for Cattle: Typically administered at a rate of 10 mg of oxyclozanide per 1 kg of body weight. Depending on the concentration (e.g., 34 mg/ml formulations), this generally equates to 3 ml per 10 kg of body weight.
  • Dosage for Sheep and Goats: Typically administered at a higher rate of 15 mg of oxyclozanide per 1 kg of body weight. For 34 mg/ml suspensions, this is roughly 4.4 to 4.5 ml per 10 kg of body weight.
  • Individual Feed Administration: For cattle handled and fed individually, the drench can be poured directly over their concentrate ration, which can be mixed with molasses or salt if they are shy feeders.
  • Safety Precautions: Wear chemical-resistant gloves during administration, and avoid eating, drinking, or smoking while handling the product.
