Virbac’s VIRBAMEC (ivermectin) is a broad-spectrum endectocide formulated to treat and control a wide variety of internal and external parasites in cattle, sheep, and swine.
INDICATIONS
Cattle Indications
Virbamec is highly effective against adult and immature stages of the following parasites:
- Gastro-intestinal Roundworms: Ostertagia ostertagi (including inhibited larval stages), Haemonchus placei, Trichostrongylus spp., Cooperia spp., Bunostomum phlebotomum, and Oesophagostomum radiatum.
- Lungworms: Dictyocaulus viviparus (adults and 4th-stage larvae).
- Eyeworms: Thelazia spp.
- Warbles (Grubs): Parasitic larval stages of Hypoderma bovis and Hypoderma lineatum.
- Mange Mites: Psoroptes bovis and Sarcoptes scabiei var. bovis.
- Lice: Sucking lice such as Linognathus vituli and Haematopinus eurysternus.
- Liver Flukes & Ticks: Specialized variants like Virbamec Super or Virbamec Plus specifically include indications for adult Liver Fluke (Fasciola hepatica) and aid in the control of Blue Ticks (Boophilus spp.).
Swine (Pigs) Indications
In pigs, it is used to clean up parasitic burdens that disrupt growth and feed efficiency:
- Gastrointestinal Roundworms: Adult and immature Ascaris suum, Hyostrongylus rubidus, and Oesophagostomum spp.
- Lungworms: Metastrongylus spp.
- Lice: Haematopinus suis.
- Mange Mites: Sarcoptes scabiei var. suis.
Sheep Indications
- Gastrointestinal Nematodes: Wireworm, brown stomach worm, bankruptworm, and nodular worm.
- Ectoparasites: Sheep scab mites (Psoroptes ovis), nasal worms (Oestrus ovis), and sucking lice.
ADMINISTRATION
- Administered exclusively via subcutaneous injection.
- Cattle: Inject under the loose skin either directly in front of or behind the shoulder.
- Sheep: Inject into the loose skin behind the shoulder, under the foreleg (axilla), or on the inside of the thigh. For wool sheep, verify that the needle has fully penetrated the wool and skin layer before dispensing.
- Swine: Inject under the skin of the neck, immediately behind the ear.
- Cattle: 1 mL per 50 kg of body weight.
- Sheep: 0.5 mL per 25 kg of body weight.
- Swine: 1 mL per 33 kg of body weight. For young piglets, a highly accurate syringe capable of delivering 0.1 mL increments is required.
