Virbac KRIPTAZEN (halofuginone) oral soluttion is indicated for newborn calves to prevent and reduce diarrhea (scours) caused by the protozoan parasite Cryptosporidium parvum.
INDICATIONS
- Prevention: Used to prevent diarrhea and reduce oocyst shedding in farms with a known history of cryptosporidiosis. Administration must begin within the first 24 to 48 hours of life.
- Treatment / Reduction: Used to reduce the severity and duration of diarrhea in affected calves. Administration should start within 24 hours after the onset of clinical signs (scouring).
ADMINISTRATION
- Target Species: Newborn calves.
- Dosing Protocol: Usually administered orally once a day for 7 consecutive days at a standard dosage of 2 ml per 10 kg of body weight.
- Important Safety Measures: Do not administer on an empty stomach or to weak/anorexic animals. The product must be given after a colostrum or milk feed to avoid adverse reactions.
