BIOMOX Amoxicillin Oral Suspension

Virbac BIOMOX oral suspension (amoxicillin) is a broad-spectrum antibiotic indicated for use in dogs only to treat dermatitis and soft tissue infections such as abscesses, wounds, and lacerations.

INDICATIONS

- Soft Tissue Infections: Abscesses, wounds, and lacerations caused by susceptible strains of Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, E. coli, and Proteus mirabilis.
- Bacterial Dermatitis: Skin infections and inflammation caused by Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus spp., and E. coli.
- Often prescribed for other susceptible bacterial infections in pets, including urinary tract infections (UTIs), upper respiratory infections, and ear/dental infections.

ADMINISTRATION

1. Preparation

- Mix with water: The medication comes as a powder. Add the exact amount of water specified on the product label (e.g., 23 mL for a 30 mL bottle) and shake vigorously until completely mixed.
- Storage: After reconstitution, it is best stored in the refrigerator. Any unused liquid must be discarded after 14 days.

2. Dosing & Administration

- Dosing: The standard dose for dogs is 5 mg per pound of body weight, given twice daily.
- How to give: Use an oral syringe to measure the exact dose. Gently place the syringe into your pet’s cheek pocket to squirt the liquid in, ensuring they swallow.
- With food: It can be given with or without food. However, giving it with a small amount of food or a meal can help prevent stomach upset.
- Shake well: Always shake the bottle vigorously before every single dose.

3. Duration of Treatment

Finish the course: Continue giving the medication for 5 to 7 days, and for 48 hours after all symptoms have subsided.
