Virbac HITEK injection (ivermectin) is a broad-spectrum, fast-acting endectocide used to treat and control a wide range of internal and external parasitic infestations in livestock and companion animals.
INDICATIONS
- Gastrointestinal Nematodes: Eradicates adult and fourth-stage larvae of major stomach and intestinal roundworms.
- Pulmonary Nematodes: Controls lungworms that affect respiratory function.
- Ectoparasitic Infestations: Systemically eliminates external pests including mange mites (Sarcoptes scabiei, Psoroptes ovis), sucking and biting lice, ticks, cattle grubs (Hypoderma larvae), and screw-worm fly larvae.
- Specialized Helminths: Treats localized tissue worms such as eye worms, skin worms, and muscle worms.
ADMINISTRATION
Administered exclusively via subcutaneous injection (under the loose skin) using sterile equipment.
- Route: Inject under the loose skin, typically in front of or behind the shoulder (scapula) for cattle and goats, or in the middle of the neck for swine.
- Needle: Use a sterile 16-gauge needle. Swab the septum before drawing each dose and disinfect the injection site.
- Dose Division: For large animals receiving more than 5 mL, divide the dose evenly between two separate injection sites to prevent discomfort or swelling.
Standard Dosage by Species
Dosage and exact injection sites depend on whether you are using the standard 1% or the high-potency 3.15% formulation of HITEK. Always verify the concentration on your specific bottle:
- Cattle, Sheep, Goats, and Camels: The standard 1% formulation is typically dosed at 1 mL per 50 kg (110 lbs) of body weight. For HITEK Platinum (3.15%), the dose is usually reduced to 1 mL per 50 kg body weight, but check the product label for exact volume.
- Swine: Typically dosed at 1 mL per 33 kg (75 lbs) of body weight.
- Other Animals: Dosages for dogs, cats, and other species must be strictly calculated by weight.
