Virbac ALBOMAR (albendazole) is a broad-spectrum anthelmintic medication indicated for treatment and control of multiple internal parasitic infections in livestock.

INDICATIONS

  • Gastrointestinal Roundworms: Treats mature and developing stages of worms (e.g., Haemonchus, Ostertagia, Trichostrongylus, and Cooperia).
  • Tapeworms: Targets segmented tapeworms like Moniezia spp.
  • Lungworms: Controls parasitic bronchitis-causing worms such as Dictyocaulus spp.
  • Liver Flukes: Effective at higher doses against adult stages of Fasciola hepatica.

ADMINISTRATION

    • Cattle and Buffalo: The standard therapeutic dose for roundworms, lungworms, and tapeworms is 1 bolus per 200–300 kg of body weight.
    • Liver Fluke Treatment: To adequately treat and control adult flukes, a higher dose of 1 bolus per 150 kg of body weight is required.

Important Clinical Considerations
  • Contraindications: Do not administer Albendazole to livestock during early pregnancy (specifically the first 45 days in cattle), as it carries teratogenic risks that can cause birth defects.
  • Withdrawal Periods: For livestock intended for human consumption, strict withdrawal periods must be observed (typically around 8 to 14 days for meat and 3 to 5 days for milk) depending on local regulatory rules to avoid drug residues.
