ADMINISTRATION

  • Standard Dosage: Administer 1 mL per 50 kg (110 lbs) of body weight.
  • Splitting Doses: If the calculated dose exceeds 10 mL, you must divide the volume and inject it into two different sites to reduce localized discomfort or swelling.
  • Equipment: Use a sterile, dry 16-gauge or 17-gauge needle that is 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch (15-20 mm) in length.
  • Restrain the Animal: Secure the animal properly in a chute or head gate to ensure safety and accurate placement.
  • Select the Site: Identify the loose skin behind or in front of the shoulder.
  • Prep the Area: Ensure the hide is clean and dry. Avoid injecting into wet or dirty areas to prevent clostridial infections.
  • Tenting Technique: Lift a fold of the loose skin with your non-dominant hand to create a “tent” or pocket.
  • Insert the Needle: Insert the needle at a 45-degree angle into the base of the skin fold. Ensure you have penetrated the skin but have not hit the underlying muscle.
  • Inject and Massage: Depress the plunger smoothly. Briefly massage the injection site after pulling the needle out to evenly distribute the liquid and prevent leakage.
