Virbac ALBOMAR (albendazole) is a broad-spectrum anthelmintic indicated for the treatment, control, and elimination of mature and immature stages of internal parasites in livestock.

INDICATIONS

• Gastrointestinal Roundworms (Nematodes): Effective against major species such as Haemonchus, Ostertagia, Cooperia, Nematodirus, Bunostomum, Chabertia, and Strongyloides.
• Lungworms: Used to clear respiratory tract nematodes like Dictyocaulus viviparus.
• Tapeworms (Cestodes): Destroys common intestinal tapeworms, including Moniezia expansa.
• Liver Flukes (Trematodes): Indicated for adult liver flukes and paramphistomes, typically requiring an elevated dose.

ADMINISTRATION

• Cattle & Buffalo: Routine or therapeutic deworming to maintain health, optimize weight gain, and protect milk productivity.
• Sheep & Goats: Broad-spectrum elimination of devastating gastrointestinal parasites and flukes.
• Small Animals (Off-Label): While Albomar is primarily a livestock bolus, veterinarians sometimes prescribe albendazole formulations for dogs and cats to combat resistant tapeworms, roundworms, and protozoal infections like Giardia.
• Teratogenicity Warning: Albendazole should not be administered to animals during the first month of pregnancy or during early gestation due to the risk of fetal abnormalities.
• Small Animal Sensitivity: In dogs and cats, prolonged or excessive use can be associated with bone marrow suppression.
